Researchers from Emory University (EU), Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., found a natural compound derived from garlic oil, diallyl trisulfide is known as, which protects against heart damage. When taken after a heart attack during cardiac surgery, or to treat heart failure is a strong complex was found to reduce tissue injury by 61 percent.
David Lefer, Ph.D., professor of surgery in the European Union and director of Cardiac Surgery Research Laboratory Schools, and diallyl trisulfide postdoctoral fellow Benjamin Predmore tested the effects of groups of mice. Duo deliberately blocked coronary artery in rats for 45 minutes in order to simulate a heart attack.
Just as they were ready to release the blockage, the team introduced a few mouse diallyl sulfide. Once the compound is given, the team observed decrease in the percentage of damaged heart tissue by 61 percent compared with mice that did not get a connection.
“Impaired blood flow and oxygen damages the integrity of mitochondria and mitochondrial damage can lead to cell death,” Lefer said. “We see that the diallyl sulfide temporarily disable the function of mitochondria, maintaining production and reduction of reactive oxygen species.”
These results are important because, at present, doctors usually produce hydrogen sulfide drugs injected directly into heart disease. In high doses, highly poisonous gas hydrogen sulfide, according to World Health Organization (WHO), can cause respiratory, immunology, lymphoreticular, cardiovascular and neurological systems, and death if inhaled.
Diallyl sulfide, however, only natural compounds in garlic butter organosulfur compounds, which is naturally produced by a small amount of hydrogen sulfide. This method appears to be safe and have fewer side effects than synthetic drugs based on the version.Diallyl sulfides in garlic, is associated with the production of ferroportin. Ferroportin facilitate the release of iron stored in the body, if necessary, necessary for transporting oxygen from the lungs to body tissues, and other functions.
